MOSCOW RAIL AND TUNNEL SHOWS ATTRACT 3,000 VISITORS

Some 3,000 transport and tunnelling industry professionals visited Exporail 2010 and INTERtunnel 2010, which took place in Moscow from 17 to 19 March. Visitors were predominantly from the Russian Federation, accounting for 90% of the total. Representatives of Russian Railways (RZD) and the Kiev Metro were among those attending the show, together with students and lecturers from the transport colleges training the engineers and specialists that will help shape the future of Russia’s railways.

Together the two shows attracted 150 exhibitors from 15 countries, including 40 companies from various parts of Europe. International participants included Ansaldo STS, EADS, Sapa Mass Transportation, Sécheron SA and VAE. Among exhibitors from Russia were AzovMash, Lengiprotans, NIIEFA-Energo, Pluton and RZD, which along with the Ministry of Transport was one of the key supporters of the event.

Organised by Restec Brooks, a joint venture between UK-based Mack Brooks Exhibitions and Restec Exhibition Company of St Petersburg, Exporail 2010 was the fourth technology trade show to be held in Moscow; INTERtunnel 2010 was the third of the series of companion exhibitions of tunnelling technology and systems.

Visitor numbers were boosted by 250 delegates at the 3rd Transport Industry Congress, which took place at the Expocentr exhibition venue. They were also able to take part in ‘Open Dialogue’ sessions staged over two days of the show. Both events featured senior industry figures and provided valuable insights into the development of railways and transport infrastructure in Russia.

Leading the formal opening of the two exhibitions was Vladimir Klimenko, First Vice-President of the Transport Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Also taking part were David Kirzhner, Deputy Head of the Locomotives Department of RZD, Georgiy Petroshenko, Deputy Head of the Department for Strategic Development at the Ministry of Transport, Igor Korotin of the Chamber of Commerce of the Russian Federation and Alexander Kondratiev, President of the International Transport Academy. Also present were representatives of the Government of Moscow and the Russian Tunnelling Association - plus the heads of the shows’ organising partners.
