Russian rail and tunnel shows EXPORAIL and INTERtunnel record increased visitor numbers
The combined Exporail and Intertunnel 2007 trade shows, which took place in Moscow from 27 to 29 November, attracted some 2,600 professionals from the rail and transport-related industries.
Exporail alone drew nearly 2,000 visitors, an increase of over 10 % on last year’s exhibition. An additional 340 visitors specifically visited Intertunnel 2007, together with 260 transport engineers and specialists that had been attending other infrastructure events taking place at the show venue, Moscow’s Expocentr.
In all, 140 exhibitors from 15 countries took part in the two shows – 120 at Exporail and 20 at Intertunnel. While the list of participants included many leading Russian suppliers, it also featured prominent firms from across Europe and from Australia, Canada and the US. Exhibitor feedback was very positive, with many companies reporting good contacts and business leads.
This was the second Exporail show to be staged in Moscow by Restec Brooks Exhibitions, a joint venture of Mack Brooks Exhibitions Ltd in the United Kingdom and the St Petersburg-based Restec Exhibition Company. It followed a similar highly successful event in 2006 and again benefited from support from RZD, Russian Railways.
This year’s Intertunnel was the first to be held in Moscow and was supported by the RTA, Russian Tunnelling Association.
Commenting on the success of the two shows, Exhibition Director Olivia Griscelli said: ‘Exhibitors and visitors all seemed very well satisfied with our second Exporail show in Moscow, and especially with the way in which both Russian and foreign suppliers were strongly represented. There was also a very good welcome for our first Intertunnel event in Russia. We have a lot of experience in this market and we believe the show can play a key role in showcasing the latest in tunnelling technology.’
Dates for the next of these events in Russia have already been confirmed. Show organisers Restec Brooks plan to return to Moscow with both Exporail and Intertunnel from 18-20 March 2009.

Big Opportunities For Foreign Suppliers in Russia’s Railways
Traffic levels on Russian Railways (RZD) continue to grow as the company invests to expand capacity and modernise its resources to serve the country’s growing economy, currently expanding at 6-7% annually. In 2006 freight tonnage handled by RZD rose around 3% while passenger numbers rose by a similar level. Forecasts see no let-up in this upward trend.
Major spending on infrastructure is under way. This is aimed both at upgrading the existing network and at developing new lines to give access to natural resources or to eliminate bottlenecks.
Modernising the traction and rolling stock fleet also has a high priority. Production of new diesel and electric locomotive types is now in progress and 2008 will see the arrival of the first Siemens-built Velaro RUS high-speed train sets for the Moscow-St Petersburg route.
At 85,000 route-km, the RZD network is second only in size to that of the US. Investments in its future mean big business opportunities for the suppliers serving this massive dynamic market.
Exporail 2007 provides perfect showcase to target the Russian market
Many leading organisations have already signed up to take part in Exporail 2007 with RZD, Russian Railways heading the list. It will have a major stand presence at the show, highlighting its current capabilities and its future plans.
The companies TransMashHolding and Uralvagonzavod are also exhibiting again, giving unique access to the main Russian wagon builders. These companies work very closely with RZD and produce the major share of the rolling stock needed for Russia’s investment programme. Also present at the show will be the biggest Russian infrastructure company KalugaPutMash with its heavy-duty track construction and maintenance equipment.
Other sections that are represented at Exporail include signalling technology, train control and communications, rolling stock suppliers of vehicle sub-systems and components, electrification, vehicle maintenance and IT specialist.

Dates Confirmed For Second Exporail Show In Russia
Dates have now been confirmed for Exporail 2007, the second international exhibition of railway technology to be held in Russia. The show will take place at the Pavilion 8 at Expocentr, Moscow, from 27-29 November 2007.
Supported by Russian Railways (RZD), this latest event will open its doors just over one year after the successful conclusion of Exporail 2006, which was held at the same venue last November. More than 150 exhibitors from 15 countries participated in that show, including many of the rail supply industry’s most prominent international companies, as well as leading Russian suppliers.
The exhibition was visited by more than 1,800 industry professionals from 29 countries, including delegates from a major international conference organised by the trade magazine RZD-Partner, which took place at the same time. In a post-show survey, around 80% of participating exhibitors said they wholly or partly achieved their aim of making initial contacts and building relationships with Russian companies.
Exporail 2007 is organised by Restec-Brooks, a joint venture established by Mack Brooks Exhibitions Ltd and the St Petersburg-based Restec Exhibition Company. It is intended to provide a showcase for the latest and best in railway equipment and systems, with a special focus on the Russian market. RZD continues to benefit from major investment as traffic grows and the rail network responds to the needs of the country’s growing economy.
Taking place alongside Exporail 2007 and also organised by Restec Brooks will be INTERtunnel 2007, covering tunnel construction and operations technology. Previous INTERtunnel shows have been successfully presented alongside rail exhibitions in Italy and Switzerland but this will be the first time this event has been staged in Russia.
